Oxfam
Oxfam Trailwalker Hong Kong since 2005 Oxfam Trailwalker is the world’s greatest team challenge.
“Jeez, my right feet was badly hurt, especially my big toe. I couldn’t imagine I can finish the whole thing!”
“Not to mention my knees are badly injured, it’s painful when walking continuously over 3 hours downhill or downstairs.”
Since 2005, Chak & Associates has accustomed to take part in the Oxfam Trailwalker (‘Trailwalker) between November and December of the year. Oxfam Trailwalker is one of the most challenging team activities as well as an international fundraising event which is held in 11 cities. It has also become one of the largest fundraising sport events in Hong Kong. The donation raised from Trailwalker will be used to support development projects and emergency relief programs particularly in Asia and Africa to help poor people to get out of poverty or bring relief to natural disaster victims and their communities.
Trailwalking is an enduring event that requires participants, of 4 in a team, to complete the 100kM MacLehose Trail starting from Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung to the Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Tai Hong Holiday Camp, in Yuen Long. There are nine checkpoints along the trail.
4 walkers + 20 support crews + Water, Food & Message + 48 hours uphill and downhill = 100km McLeahose Trail
Trail Start: Pak Tam Chung Campsite, Sai Kung CP1: Sai Wan CP2: Pak Tam Au CP3: Kei Ling Ha CP4: Gilwell Campsite CP5: Beacon Hill CP6: Smugglers Ridge Rifle Range CP7: Lead Mine Pass CP8: Tai Mo Shan CP9: Tai Lam Chung Reservoir Trail Finish: Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Tai Tong Campsite, Yuen Long
Knowing that astounding length of the trail, Chak & Associates, still each year, has conquered this unbelievably endless trail, not to mention the restless help from the supporting crew. They have two support crews for their runners team: the primary crew handles first 24-hour-work while the second crew is responsible for the last 24-hour-support work. It has been an uneasy task for the supporting screw as they have to prepare enough food and drinks for the walkers at each check point according to their checklist. Moreover, the support crew has to monitord the team progress and be ready to provide drinks and meals at all checkpoints. It is the most important to ensure the runners are well-hydrated to prevent heat exhaustion and muscle cramps. Additionally, the crew has to prepare Band-Aids and medications for stomachache, nausea, vomiting, and antiseptic wash/cream etc.
From using 26 hours 16 minutes to walk through 5 sections of the trail to 42.5 hours for the whole trail, from below 5 to the top 2 in the legal service category, from extreme weariness to amazing breakthrough, not only Oxfam’s fund was gradually increasing, the passion and determination of our crew members were soaring at the same time.
“I can’t believe I can come to this far”
“Nothing is impossible.”
Fitting to our company’s mission – “Excellence in everyone and everything”, it clearly reflects our eagerness to help and serve. No doubt, through these annual Oxfam Trailwalker, it is believed that the relationship between our staffs is getting closer and closer, more importantly, our team-spirit becomes more attached and more authentic, as being a team of four people, it is doubtlessly NOT an individual competition. The completion is only counted as a team, including both the participants and the supporting crew. All members have to complete the 100km together to accomplish the goal. The completion of the event is definitely one of the satisfactions and rewarding experiences ever!!!

Green Power
Green Power Hong Kong Trail Race 2010 In 2010, Chak & Associations has also participated in Green Power Hike at the 25-km Hong Kong Trail. Such hike is an annual fund-raising walkathon for Green Power as to increase people’s awareness towards green future. All donations will be used for environmental education in the community and schools. The trail begins from the peak to the Big Wave Bay with the time limitation of 16 hours. Team Chak&Energy finally completed the race in slightly more than 12 hours. Besides the length of the trail, the other apparent difference of Green Power and Trailwalker is the environment around the trail. Works have occupied most of our daily time. We truly believe that through this hike, we gain a better understanding to the ecology of Hong Kong. As we hike, the beauty of the scenery around acknowledges us the importance of protecting the environment. The birds sing, the lights shines through the leaves, the mist flows above the moss. Though this atmosphere is merely a small part in our life, they can be added together as to beautify the whole nature. The picturesque scenery makes our hiking so effortless and enjoyable. This race is a great opportunity to understand more of the ecology in Hong Kong, and promote environmental work. Through this experience, we have learnt that environment also plays a very important role in our life apart from working and working to earn a living.

Most of them regarded the slope going up to Rumsey Street Flyover was the most difficult and exhausting one. With the bustling sun shining above their heads, sweat kept dropping from their forehead. Yet, the runners felt remarkable and satisfied. With the support waiting at the finishing line, they accelerated and finished their first marathon in life. This courage and persistence yet were the main source of attaining their personal victory. This memorable event will always become an encouragement to us when facing future adversity.
